but I do believe in miracles

I have written a lot about intelligent design, and how I don’t really believe in it.  I am a firm believer in Science, Evolution, and well, the natural process.  Pretending that the hand of God has helped make a fish’s gill or decided who would get AIDS or not is not something I believe in.

However, Sam and I were watching a documentary on Intelligent Design the other day, and I said that as much as I’m against teaching about miracles and/or the hand of God in school, it’s hard for me not to believe that our little baby is a miracle.

Seriously - I know that mammalian birth evolved from egg birth to protect the fetus longer, I know how DNA works to make a composite of the mom and the dad, but still - this little baby grew inside of me from a single egg and sperm, and he’s come out all complete and looking like the both of us!   And he eats, and poops, and pushes things out of the way with his hands, and makes the same facial expressions that his dad does.  It’s a miracle.  I’m one of those moms who can sit around and stare at her baby for hours on end, amazed that God made this healthy little boy for us.

But don’t tell my 10th grade science teacher I said that.
