so what are you going to do about it?

I try not to get angry very much.  Life is too short to be angry at everything.

Let’s take for example this book I’m reading right now about how we are ruining the environment by the way our food is produced.  It takes so many barrels of oil to produce that cheeseburger you are eating.  And that’s not just conventional food, that’s also so-called “organic” food.    I think that I’m doing my part by shopping at Whole Foods and buying organic food, but it’s pretty much just as bad as regular food - it’s better for you, sure, and tastes better, but buying organic asparagus from Argentina in the fall just isn’t cost-effective.

So I get angry, briefly.  We need to change the world!  Can’t we make our legislators see the light?  This is an outrage!

And then I realize that there are so many things in this world that I can get angry at, I need to pick my battles.  I don’t agree with our president but seriously I’m not about to lead a group to get him impeached.  I don’t like the way our food is produced but just about all I can do is eat well and try to avoid giving money to (i.e. buying from) any company that makes stuff that comes from Archer Daniels Midland (big producer of corn by-products).  I recycle. I volunteer and help people in my community.  I vote for people who I think will make a difference.

Sure, I get angry at the world sometimes, but what will I do about it?  What will you do about it?
