on helping things grow

For some reason, I can’t explain why at all, I’m becoming very interested in making things grow.  I spent a major part of Saturday trimming, repotting, splitting and generally caring for my ever-growing brood of houseplants.   I just feel so happy inside when they grow new leaves and flowers.  Some of them came from my friend Kara, who is much more obsessed with houseplants than I am, and when I go over to her house I say things like “Oh!  That’s the plant I have!  That must be how it will look eventually …”  I’ve got a number of plants from Kara and also from Kramer - and I find myself eyeing up their plants whenever I go over to see if there is a cutting or something I could take and grow something new in my house.   A girl’s gotta have goals, I guess.

Another part of my Saturday was spent mowing, raking, and weeding the little patch of lawn we have around my condo building.   AND, we’ve got big plans for landscaping.  Now that the balcony is done, we are focusing on other beautifying projects.   The weeding I did on Saturday was part of our project to revive the weed-infested south-facing garden plot.  On Sunday (all day Sunday), we replaced the section of lawn that had no sun (and hence no grass) with groundcovering mulch and plants.

There is still a lot more to do.  It’s going to be a busy summer with work, but the free time I have will likely be spent on helping things grow.
