he could have studied … library science

I had a great time at the cottage, as always.  Kramer is just so welcoming, and so are her family and friends.   I met a new nephew this weekend - he hadn’t been at the cottage for three years, and before that we had never been up on the same weekends.
He’s going into his fourth […]

I live in the then

Sarah Vowell likes history - so much so that she is seen by some people as a sort of freak.  She describes herself as wanting to live in the “then” (instead of living in the now, of course).   Me too.  I would much rather curl up with a book on Lincoln or Constantine than read […]

have a nice memorial day weekend

I’m off to Kramer’s cottage for the weekend, let’s hope for more sunshine than rain.  However, rain or shine, all I’m going to do is relax.   I’ve been travelling so much, and busy with the new product release, it will be nice to just sit around for a while.

on Martin Luther King

Last weekend when we were in Atlanta — specifically to see the Carter Muesum –  Lisa, Leanne and I also saw the Martin Luther King historical sites.   They are just near each other in Atlanta, and they are connected by a Walk of Peace of some sort.
I learned a lot more at the MLK site than at […]

whither peace?

This past weekend some friends and I visited the Carter Library and Museum. I haven’t decided where it ranks yet (certainly not in the top 3, I can say that), but it was worth the trip. Lisa and Leanne are more than welcome on any of my future library trips — especially libraries […]

an interesting comic.

There are so many things about this comic that I enjoy.   http://xkcd.com/c263.html
I am similarly disgusted with political discussions these days.  And I taught math.  It’s the only universal truth.

channelling shirley jones

I spent a little time in the middle of Iowa last week, and unfortunately for me, whereever I walked I thought of Shirley Jones in all of those midwestern musicals.  Oh, what a beautiful morning.  We are … from Iiiii-oh-wah.

on helping things grow

For some reason, I can’t explain why at all, I’m becoming very interested in making things grow.  I spent a major part of Saturday trimming, repotting, splitting and generally caring for my ever-growing brood of houseplants.   I just feel so happy inside when they grow new leaves and flowers.  Some of them came from my […]

a sad day for the protestant reformation

I think I might almost be done with this whole Catholic interest soon - next book on my list is about Afganistan.  Bear with me.
However, here is a recent news article about the sad sad day for true sons and daughters of the protestant reformation.  A leading evangelical leader decides to return to Catholicism. This guy says that […]

the pope and Islam

On my recent plane flight to Germany, I caught up on a stackful of New Yorkers.  One of the articles was The Pope and Islam. Given my recent interest in Catholicism, this was an interesting article for me. The pope was not presented in a particularly good light; it was a political/critical analysis of the […]
