female overnight kit
So I have arrived in Jerusalem once again, but my luggage has not. It’s still in Frankfurt. They think. No, really, they’re pretty sure it will arrive late tomorrow morning - meaning I’ll have two full days at work with only my carry on bag.
I almost felt like I was back in Peace Corps days, thinking to myself, “What’s the least amount of things I need to operate and get to work tomorrow?”
- I have my laptop (and borrowed a power cord), which is about the only essential thing I need for the actual work.
- I had a hotel room for sleeping, plus water and laundry detergent to wash my clothes last night.
- I had money, so I bought a new shirt because the other one wouldn’t have dried overnight. It was late so the only thing open was a tourist shop — so I bought a t-shirt that (apparently) says “Drink Coca-Cola” in Hebrew. They all love it here around the office.
- I had personal items, since I must be some sort of frequent flier and the lady gave me a “female overnight kit” once they determined that they had absolutely no idea where my bag was.
The “female overnight kit” was the thing that prompted me to think what the absolute necessities would be for staying overnight if I had nothing. What did the airline think was necessary for a female-probable-business-person to survive overnight? In it was a thin white t-shirt, toothbrush/paste, hairbrush, deodorant, shampoo, lotion, laundry detergent, and two tampons. That was about it - and it turned out to be just enough. Except for the tampons, which in this instance turned out to be extraneous [I know you needed to know that].
A place to sleep, clean clothes, a little money, and the ability to keep clean/present myself - these are the basics, I guess. No contacts, no hair crap, no makeup, no fancy clothes, no dry socks. I’ll be happy to have all of the above tomorrow, though.
