my favorite thing. ever.
Someone asked me a while ago, by way of getting to know me, what my favorite thing was. I only had a few seconds to reply, and what burst out of my mouth was “Books”. I’ve thought about that question on and off since, with a little more time on my hands, and I’ve decided I wouldn’t change it. Top contenders might be my Family, or Travel. Certainly not Blog, although I like it, I can seemingly go DAYS without posting. And Computing in general — eh. It’s important, but it’s not my favorite thing. Email/communicating via the Internet is important, but the question is how important? Not as important as Books, certainly - I can (and have) lived without the Internet for periods of time. And I could possibly live without Travel; I’ve done so for a some months at a time and I did start bouncing off the walls, but I think if someone took Travel or Books away from me, Books would cause worse problems.
I think Family doesn’t count in this situation — because they are not something I choose, necessarily. When I say “I”, I really mean “we”. They’re a part of me, which is evidenced in the language used for greeting in Zimbabwe. When you greet someone, usually older, you ask him/her how They are — How are y’all? How are the others that you represent? And the person responds, We’re all fine. He/She replies with “we”, and it’s not the royal we - they mean, all of the people who are part of me are just fine, thanks.
So after all of that thinking, my favorite thing comes down to the thing that I thought of in two seconds. Books. Quick - what’s your favorite thing?
