marie breaks the wolf moon promise

So I visited Little Falls for Erin’s birthday, and in the process I broke my pre-lenten wolf moon promise to not drink alcohol in the month of January.  This does not disturb me very much, since I don’t tie the wrath of God to any Lenten promise or anything.  Giving things up for things like […]

connected

My brother and sister-in-law let me drive the Miata to work on Thursday and Friday.  I’ve never actually been to this campus for work before, so needed some help with directions from their house.  My brother was explaining it to me, with a little help from the directions to the campus from the web site, […]

marie visits the twin cities

So I’m in the Twin Cities for work, and let me tell you I just love to be in Minnesota.  I seriously smiled the whole time on the plane, and through the airport on the way to baggage, listening to gate staff telling stories and people on their cell phones, all in the awesome accent […]

what can I possibly be thinking?

I can’t give up meat for Lent!  I have too much venison in the freezer!
Maybe I’ll give up this silly blog for a while …

denial, or liberation brings a new form of tyranny

I’ve decided to give up alcohol for January (well, I missed the first few days so it’s the month of the Wolf Moon which started on Jan 3 and ends on Groundhog Day).   I’m doing this in lieu of giving it up for lent which is impossible since I’ll be visiting Theresa during that time.   […]

yesterday

This week I checked with a number of Honda dealers, and nobody had a Fit for sale.  They are scarce.  Yesterday I found out there was one Fit for sale, in all of Chicagoland.
 It’s not for sale anymore.
It’s blue and an automatic (I wanted 5 speed but I couldn’t be very picky) but it is […]

another president gone

A number of people have commented to me that Gerald Ford has died or was buried at his presidential museum - less because of the newsworthiness and more because of my fascination with presidential libraries.   They ask if I’ve seen his museum or if they know me, just want to chat with me about it. […]

turns out it’s totally random but all good

My niece Savannah is twelve.  Not surprisingly, her vocabulary is influenced by her friends.  As a result, over Christmas weekend, she used the word “random” to describe everything from truly random things to ironic things to things that are not random at all but perhaps just odd. She got Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) for Playstation […]

still searching for x

Both Julia and I taught Math in Zimbabwe, and she still teaches Math/Physics in NY.  We met another math teacher, and Julia repeated a joke that she tells about teaching math.
Someone she met found out she was a math teacher, and asked her, “Are they still searching for x?  Have they found it yet?”

ringing in 2007

In general, my New Years tend to be more quiet than rowdy.  However, this year I spent New Years’ weekend with my friend Julia and a whole bunch of her friends in the Adirondacks, in upstate New York.  It wasn’t rowdy, but it was certainly one of the best New Years I have had in […]
