books to the ceiling
I forgot to put this on the books post! It’s perfect:
Books to the ceiling,
Books to the sky,
My pile of books is a mile high.
How I love them! How I need them!
I’ll have a long beard by the time I read them.

why I am buying a car
I was trying the no-car life, but alas it was not meant to be. At least until February, when our company will be moving offices.
The company I work for recently purchased one of our competitors, whose headquarters are in Chicago (where I live). The Chicago office of our company is relatively small, so we’ll all […]
it’s going to be a good year. I can feel it.
I think 2007 is going to be a very good year. I’ll be ringing it in this weekend (starting tomorrow) in Syracuse NY with my friend Julia and her friends. And as for the rest of the year, I think it will turn out well.
So. Here are my New Year’s resolutions for 2007.
1. Finish reading […]
the recurring new year’s resolution
Every year I include the same New Year’s resolution on my list, which is to not buy any more books until I have finished all of the books on my not-read-yet shelf (above). I have been doing this every year for about six years, and I can usually make it til about June when there are […]

My brother Brian is pretty handy with a computer, and I guess I am too, but where my forte is large scale systems and a programming team, his is the PC. He loves to tinker with his computers, and every so often he’ll tell me he’s improved his home LAN or replaced some hard drive […]

There is this game that we play in my family called Demon. I have never actually seen rules for it, but I have heard of other families who play some version of it, with a different name. It’s a little like multiple-handed solitare but more … cutthroat. Every person has their own deck of cards, […]

I’m going up north for Christmas. I’m from up north. When my friend Julia came to visit Wisconsin, I planned to take her up north - and told her so when she arrived. She (not being from round these parts) said “Where’s up north? Why don’t you just say where we are […]

Sappy post alert.
The other night, I was hanging out with my good friend Kara, like usual, eating, drinking, and chatting after her son was sleeping. During the evening we were reminded that it was just about a year ago when she visited me in El Salvador. Sometimes I think El Salvador never really […]
not good enough
So, I’m reading a book on Lincoln. I don’t really know when I started to become fascinated with Lincoln, it was probably about 10 years ago when I was living in southern Wisconsin, shortly after I visited the Lincoln historical sites. Since then I’ve read a number of books about him, and became personally offended […]

Every once in a while, I think about that one guy from the IT department at the university where I used to work, about 8 years ago. He was young, but a pretty good programmer - I tend to get along well with people who know a lot about computers. He didn’t do much else than […]
