giving thanks

I visited with family this past week, and have a few things for which to be thankful this year:

1. Wisconsin DNR wants to cull the deer herd so my brothers/dad got me a deer again this year.  It’s all in my freezer right now.

2. It didn’t snow during the Thanksgiving drive home (seven hours up, seven hours back), and I listened to two civil war audiobooks.

3. My dad and the “boys” (my three older brothers) were out at the hunting shack most of the week, and they enjoyed it immensely - it’s good to see them enjoying themselves.  We went out to visit them a few times, and of course they were in for Thanksgiving.

4.  Normally the house is so full it is uncomfortable, but the wives and some children didn’t come this year, so I spent lots of quality time with my mom and nephews Brett (my godson) and his brother Scott.

5. I also hung out with my grandma (90+ years old) who is not going so strong anymore, and my aunt Arlene who is also my godmother.

6. My work took me back early this year after my short-lived second Peace Corps tour.

7. Now I’m working with a new product at work, and life is more interesting every day.

8. I was able to get to know Kara and Dirk’s baby Ian this year, and he is adorable!   I can’t wait to see him grow. Kramer and I are honorary aunties.

9.  I visited friends and far-flung places this year (and two more presidential libraries!), even though I was tied to my work for most of the summer.

10. The balcony work is almost done.  Thank God.

And I’m thankful that the boys have a wonderful aunt to hang out with and enjoy! It was a comfort knowing while I was away and spending time with MY very ill aunt that my boys were having a great time with their Auntie Marie.
