This could be about me

One of the reasons I write this blog is because it’s a place where I can write what I want to write, with little or no discussion from others. This doesn’t make my blog the biggest hit in the world. I find that sometimes I get on my high horse and write […]

balcony work progressing

The balcony work is progressing nicely, just so you know. The fragile top layer of cement has been removed from the walkways, and the railings have been completely removed — they put up steel wire so that we don’t fall over the edge. I have vowed to not come home drunk these three weeks, […]

on being a librarian

A friend of mine who was in the Peace Corps is considering going to Library School, and is asking me what librarianship is all about, whether she might like it, and whether I like it.
I am one of those people who decided what I wanted to be when I was a Junior in college, […]

i’m right, you’re wrong

After reflecting on my communism posts, I was thinking that I hoped people didn’t think I was a communist for writing those things. Which led me to think about
1. The assasination of Romero in El Salvador. The US was supporting (i.e. funding) the right-wing government in the fight against the commie bastards in […]

spinning vs lying; what really happened?

I have written about truth a fair amount in this blog - it’s something I like to worry about in general. Last week after Stacey and I came out of the Nixon Library, having just seen the Nixon version of Watergate events, we had a long discussion about politicians and truth. If one […]

the balcony work has started

The scaffolding is up, and now we cannot enter the building from the front. They say they will fix that tomorrow with scaffolding that will allow people to walk under it, because otherwise the mailperson will ALSO not be able to enter from the front.
I am the President of this association, meaning […]

reagan and the communists

I have said previously that it seemed that the Reagan presidential museum was brief in its presentation of the activities of Reagan’s actual presidency (”glossed over” were the words I used, I think). This may be because I lived throught it, and remember more about it than I have read about it, or it may […]

followup on Reagan

Noted that Reagan’s was the first presidential museum that I visited where I had actually lived in the time that the events happened. I don’t count Ford since I was six when he left office and I wasn’t particularly politicially aware.

stifling research

When I was in Italy, I was thinking how horrible it was that the Catholic Church wasted so much energy and money on a bunch of churches that will not be used. There was a church on every corner in Rome, and as the guidebook said it was if each Pope tried to outdo […]

amazingly enough

So we saw the Nixon and Reagan Presidential Libraries at the beginning of the week. Ok, we didn’t actually see the LIBRARIES, but the MUSEUMS. The premise is that there are rooms devoted to explaining about the president’s early life, political life before the presidency, and then major points of the presidency. […]
