an insightful post about being an aunt
My great friend Theresa reads my blog and sometimes comments but often sends a nice long email. Or we’ll chat and talk about things on my blog or hers. At any rate, she pointed out that the day I write this high-falutin’ post about “writing about ideas”, the next post is about a person […]

Another movie that had a good message about memories was the movie “Memento”, in addition to being fun to figure out. In it, a man has lost his short term memory — he can only remember a few seconds (mintues?) back. After that, the only other things he can remember are what happened […]

I very much enjoyed the message in the movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” regarding memories. The main premise of the movie is that two people decide to use the memory-erasing company to remove all memories of each other after they broke up. While going through it, the man decides that the […]

Wittgenstein’s Poker is a book about ten minutes in the lives of Wittgenstein, a quite famous philosopher, and a lesser known but equally combative philosopher named Popper. They only met for ten minutes but knew about each others’ work, and became involved in a heated argument. Wittgenstein apparently brandished a poker at […]

This post is about my just-turned-10 nephew Spencer. The whole world knows that his older sister Savannah is my absolute-favorite niece, mostly because I lived with her (and her dad-my-brother and her mom-my-almost-sister) just after I got back from Zimbabwe for six months. Spencer was born while I was living there, so he […]

Here is a meta-post about the content of my blog posts.
I am not certain why I blog (hence the title, Hameno = NO CLUE). Presumably I do this to keep in touch with people, but I don’t write much about my personal life here, and about half of the people I keep in touch […]
MBA … or philosophy?
Earlier this year, I read an article in the New Yorker that talked about the newest MBA-speak that was going around. In fact, I seem to remember that the writer was disdainful of whatever the new brand of MBA-speak had come around or would ever come around. Too bad I didn’t tear that out […]
Posted by Marie on August 23rd, 2006 under Uncategorized | 3 Comments »the joys of a pencil case
At the ripe old age of 37, I still use a pencil case, which might be considered childish by some. It’s just that the bags I carry don’t have good pockets, and I hate crap just laying around in the bottom of my bag. Just practical, I think, not childish.
One of my […]
not so grim
Things really aren’t so grim, I hope I didn’t give that impression with the previous posts. I use the prisoner’s dilemma to justify cooperation, and to talk about how to have long-term positive relationships (stockpiling riches) but deal with things that annoy me (and not be a pansy).
Posted by Marie on August 20th, 2006 under Uncategorized | 4 Comments »managing tit for tat with forgiveness
Tit for tat is not exactly the best way to live one’s life. I’ve never really agreed with an eye for an eye. It’s a little harsh. The game theory term for this is Tit for Tat with forgiveness. Defect on someone, but not as much as they defected on […]
